Expanding to the U.S. market
Following strong reception at European trade venues including Chillventa, Tequs is preparing its standardized high-temperature CO₂ heat pump platform for entry into the North American commercial market.
High-temperature hydronic demand in North America
Commercial and institutional facilities across the United States face growing pressure to decarbonize heating systems. Many existing buildings in northern states rely on high-temperature hydronic loops and fossil fuel boilers originally designed for steam or hot water between 160 °F and 194 °F (70 °C to 90 °C).
Standard commercial heat pumps struggle to reach these supply temperatures without auxiliary electric boilers, particularly when return water is warm. The Tequs Aqua platform delivers supply temperatures up to 90 °C (194 °F) while tolerating return water up to 50 °C (122 °F). This enables direct replacement of commercial boilers without replacing radiators, air handling coils, or internal piping.
Regulatory drivers and the transition to R744
The U.S. regulatory landscape is shifting quickly under the AIM Act, which mandates an 85 percent phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) by 2036. In addition, several states are evaluating restrictions on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are present in many synthetic chemical refrigerants.
Tequs systems operate exclusively with natural CO₂ (R744), a non-flammable refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1. Because R744 carries zero PFAS or F-gas exposure, mechanical engineers and building owners can specify the equipment without risk of future chemical bans or phaseout regulations.
UL certification and partner deployment
Tequs is currently completing UL certification to verify compliance with North American electrical and pressure safety standards. Engineering adaptations also accommodate 60 Hz electrical supply and standard North American connection interfaces.
Market deployment in the United States will follow the same partner-led model established in Europe. Tequs works directly with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors, mechanical distributors, and energy service companies to ensure straightforward installation and local technical support.
